Some Better News

There's a lot of negativity swirling around right now, and it needs to swirl: we have to talk about the issues we're facing, because we need to sort them out, however ugly they may be.

But it's not easy to see one devastating headline after another, and it's even harder to watch people you love come unglued on each other because of differing opinions.

We've got to balance that heaviness with some good, and let me tell you, there's a lot of good going on all around us. Here are a few of the things that made me smile recently.


Barry White, Jr. is a super-cool 5th grade teacher in North Carolina. He has personalized handshakes with each of his students.


These neighbors – 31-year-old Chris Salvatore and 89-year-old Norma Cook – became best friends and roommates.


Tennessee expanded its free community college program to include adults as well as recent high school graduates.


After the Islamic Center of Victoria in Texas burned down, donations to rebuild it totaled more than half a million dollars in 24 hours.


Okay, this isn't exactly news, but it might just make you laugh: this bear mascot cannot stop slipping on the ice.
